Celebrating 30 years of law practice, the last 9 as a judge. I began my career in Salinas, California, as plaintiff's counsel representing children injured during the birth processes. I then was hired by a civil defense firm in Santa Cruz, California, representing 13 cities along the Central Coast in matters from police brutality to trip and falls on the sidewalk. I the moved to Spokane, Washington, where I was hired as a Public Defender by the City of Spokane - at which I practiced for 11 years until appointed to bench in 2009. I am also delighted to be celebrating the 5th year of the creation of our Community Court - a restorative justice concept created by the Center for Court Innovation - where we focus on the individual and not just on the crime charged in an effort to reduce barriers to a more healthful life which would hopefully include housing, primary medical care, SSI/SSDI and any other needs revealed.
